The tale of two contrasting trends in tech hiring + more updates

The Talent Tales

Weekly ideas, observations and updates from Cutshort HQ

Hi there,

I spent sometime under the Bodhi Tree in Bihar this week. Given the serenity I still feel, I think every TA professional deserves to be sent there every 6 months. Shall we start a campaign? 😛

Tech hiring - a tale of two contrasting trends

Tech hiring is going through a very interesting phase.

👉 On one hand, the candidate pool is increasing due to restructuring and continued caution. Workday reported a 30% increase in job applications globally. Our own data which is India + quality tech hiring specific - shows an even sharper increase in job applications -  200% in last 9 months.

👉 At the same time, companies are seeing their best talent leaving. Workday reported in the above report that 75% of industries saw an increase in turnover for high-potential employees.

My conclusion: The divide in the tech hiring market between those who have the right skills vs those who don't is accelerating. One side is seeing loss of jobs and downward pressure on salaries while the other is set to touch new records.

26th Sep: First unmeetup of Gen-AI recruiters

Last week, we kickstarted a community for recruiters hiring for Gen-AI skills OR wanting to use AI in their hiring.

Why? The 50% hike is not just for AI engineers. You can have it too.  💰

First anonymous group meetup is on 26th Sept 🚨

On 26th Sep, we will do an “unmeetup” - an anonymous online meeting to learn where we stand today and kickstart some action. This meeting will be anonymous - so that no one can judge you. Just ask and share away candidly.

If you'd like to get in, join the community 👇

Trivia time

Did you know?

Some interesting TA facts:

  • The first known employment agency was founded in 1653 by Henry Robinson in England.
  • The most expensive hire in history cost $14 million in agency fees to recruit a CEO for a major tech company in 2019.
  • The shortest job interview on record lasted just 12 seconds. The candidate was asked, "Would you prefer to be respected or feared?" He replied, "Feared," and was immediately shown the door.

That's it for this week. Have a great weekend.

With ❤️
