2024 has changed the honeymooner behavior. Also more updates.

The Talent Tales

Weekly ideas, observations and updates from Cutshort HQ

Hi there,

This was a busy, but fun week. LinkedIn showed me the “become a top voice” carrot and I took the bait (here and here) 😛.

Did you try something new this week as well?

Let's start the newsletter.

In the headlines

Your new hires are at high risk ⚠️

In the past, new hires felt engaged and planned to stay for 1+ year at least.

But PeopleMatters highlighted the end of the new job honeymoon phase in 2023.

The report pointed out that new hires now tend to have the lowest levels of engagement, feelings of inclusion, and well-being, and are more likely to leave.

Why so? We are in “the employer market” right now. The joining ratios are high but that is also because candidates have less options and are making compromises in their desired role, company and salary.

My advice? Enjoy the power in your hands, but don't squeeze the candidates too much.  :)

Making your career AI proof is not an option

I don't want to scare you but I must warn you.

IMF reports that AI could affect almost 40% of jobs globally. Citi says AI is set to displace 50% of the banking jobs

As we all know, 75% of recruiting today is ops work and AI is going to make a dent there. By 2027, recruiting teams would very look very different in terms of the size and skills.

I don't have all the answers but I have started a community to help recruiters be AI ready. Join it if you are serious about this.

Our first online meetup is tomorrow, (28th Sep), 11am IST 👇

Recruiting dilemmas

The “Political Minefield”

Let's take a break from trivia and quizzes this week. In recruiting, we often face ethical dilemmas that make us think hard. Here's a situation:

A recruiter is trying to fill an AI Engineer role for 2 months. Finally, their team liked Akshay, and they are about to make an offer. However, while doing a routine social media check, the recruiter discovers that Akshay has recently shared a controversial post with misogynistic views.

What would you advise the recruiter to do? Please remember:

👉 This is an urgent position.

👉 The candidate is a strong match technically

👉 The company's values and culture doesn't mention misogyny directly but talks about diversity and respect.

👉 The candidate has only shared/forwarded the post, not created it.

REPLY with your views on this LinkedIn post.

That's it for this week. Have a great weekend.

With ❤️
